Marula seed oil boasts a rich supply of essential omega-3 oleic acids, phytonutrients, minerals and naturally-occurring antioxidants. While only the size of a golf ball, the marula fruit contains the same amount of vitamin C as four grapefruits.

How to Navigate Labels – “Organic” and “Natural”

Unfortunately, you can't depend on the words "organic" and "natural" on body care product labels to protect you from potentially toxic chemicals.

According to a report by the Organic Consumers Association, the word "organic" is not regulated with personal care products as it is with food products.

The word “natural” is allowed on products with ingredients derived from plants, even when those ingredients are chemically processed and combined with other ingredients.

Some bath and soap products with “organic” on the label may contain only a single-digit percentage of organic ingredients. Other products may use synthetic ingredients, or ingredients that are derived from natural sources, but then highly processed so they contain potentially toxic compounds.

As an example, a 2008 study commissioned by the Organic Consumers Association found that many leading "natural" and "organic" brand body washes and shampoos contained the cancer-causing contaminant 1,4-Dioxane.

Protecting yourself can require sharp detective work.
