Many people equate strong, lustrous hair, soft, glowing skin, and smooth, strong nails with optimal health and youthfulness.
And countless individuals, both men and women, spare little expense trying to achieve these effects with...
....Costly salon keratin treatments to make their hair shiny and smooth.
...Laser skin resurfacing, Botox injections, chemical peels and other topical treatments to improve skin elasticity and decrease pore size and wrinkles.
...Nail and toenail treatments to strengthen brittle and peeling nails.
What if there was a way to get some of these same results without spending a lot of money and putting your well-being at risk?
What about supplements? Can a pill really help your hair, skin and nails? No doubt you’ve seen – and maybe even tried – vitamin or mineral products that promise to turn back the hands of time for your skin and strengthen your hair and nails.
I believe a combination of three special ingredients can work from within to significantly improve the appearance of your hair, skin and nails. Most importantly, unlike some others found in a few popular products, these three ingredients won’t threaten your health and are shown to work.
Before I tell you about what I consider the ideal trifecta for healthy- and youthful-looking hair, skin and nails, let’s take a look at the factors that may be keeping yours from looking their best.
What May Be Keeping Your Hair, Skin and Nails from Looking Their Best
Many people put their hair, skin and nails through torture on a regular basis...
- Blow dryers, hot curlers, flat irons, hair dyes, permanents, tight braids, hair-strengthening products and other chemical-laden products can make hair dry and brittle, and contribute to hair loss.
- Stress, hormones, excessive UV light, air pollution, poor sleep, chlorine and processed foods can contribute to lifeless-looking skin and dull, unhealthy-looking hair.
- Poor nutrient quality in food and exposure to household detergents and cleaners can lead to soft or brittle nails.
It doesn’t take much abuse for your skin to look rough and sallow, your hair to become dry and fall out, and your nails to become brittle.
As for hair loss... While there’s little you can do about natural balding, you can help protect your hair from other types of damage.
Healthy hair, skin and nails depend on three main structural proteins to keep them looking healthy:
- Solubilized keratin
- Collagen peptides
- Elastin
The aging process affects the levels of all three structural proteins, as well as your hormone levels. Inflammation and high blood sugar also adversely affect the production of proteins found in your hair, skin and nails.
What Your Healthy Skin Needs to Help Maintain Its Youthful Look and Feel
Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and is made up of three layers:
- Epidermis – The outermost, thinnest layer of your skin that protects you from the elements. Keratinocytes within the epidermis produce the protein keratin.
- Derma – Below the epidermis, the derma or dermis gives skin its plumpness, and the proteins elastin and collagen provide support and elasticity.
- Hypodermis – This deep subcutaneous tissue is made up of fat and connective tissue.
When all three of your skin layers are healthy, your skin can perform its primary duty and defend you from the elements, harsh chemicals and outside intruders. It’s important to maintain your skin’s health to help you stay protected.
Aging and excessive sun exposure can damage the dermis and lead to wrinkling. Reduction of tissue in the hypodermis contributes to sagging skin.
Healthy skin cells give your skin a radiant glow, whereas dead skin cells can make your skin look dull and uneven in tone. Oxidative stress from UV exposure and other environmental pollutants can cause your skin to lose its vitality.
To support your skin health, eat a healthy diet consisting of plentiful fresh foods, limit alcohol, avoid smoking, control stress and get enough quality sleep.
Strong, Flexible Nails* – Courtesy of Biotin, the Original Beauty Vitamin
Biotin, also known as vitamin H or B7, is a water-soluble vitamin within the vitamin B family. It plays an important role in the health of your hair, skin and nails.
D-biotin is the naturally occurring, biologically active form of biotin. One of eight forms of the water-soluble vitamin, d-biotin functions as a coenzyme – or helper enzyme – for numerous metabolic reactions in your body. This active form is involved in lipid and protein metabolism and aids in your body’s energy production.*
Regarded as the “beauty” vitamin, biotin plays a role in maintaining your body’s keratin infrastructure, one of the crucial structural proteins for healthy skin, hair and nails.*
Biotin was originally recognized for its effectiveness in treating hoof issues in horses and cattle. Those findings led researchers to explore whether biotin might offer help for strengthening brittle fingernails in humans.
Three trials examined the effects of biotin supplementation in women with brittle fingernails. In two of the trials, improvement was reported in 67% to 91% of study participants.*
In one study, the study women reported less fingernail splitting and a 25% increase in the thickness of the nail plate when taking biotin for an extended period.*
The Truth About the Keratin in Your Hair and Skin Care Products
The protein keratin is found throughout your body and plays a structural role in your skin, hair and nails.
It’s the main protein in your skin and makes up its surface layer – the epidermis. Keratin is what makes your skin rigid and plays a key role in barrier protection.
This protein has one of the highest proportions of cysteine, an amino acid that acts as an important antioxidant and a natural reservoir of sulphur. Much of keratin’s structural strength comes from cysteine.
Keratin is also responsible for most of the structure of your hair and nails. When beauty professionals apply keratin treatments to hair, skin and nails to provide protection or to repair damage, they use extracted keratin.
Most of the keratin used in hair care and skin care products is denaturalized keratin – hydrolyzed keratin that has been “denatured.”
A by-product of the meat processing industry, keratin is extracted from the hooves, horns and feathers of animals and birds through a large-scale industrial rendering process using high heat and acid.
This harsh processing “denaturalizes” the keratin, which means it is no longer bioactive or particularly functional to the human body.
What You Need to Know About Keratin Treatments and the ‘Brazilian Blowout’
You may be familiar with beauty salon keratin treatments – some also known as the Brazilian Blowout – that promise to leave your hair smooth and silky, minus the frizz.
For as much as $400, you can get a chemical-intensive, hair-smoothing treatment that lasts for weeks or months.
Your hair may end up looking terrific, but at what cost to your body?
Some keratin treatments, including the popular Brazilian Blowout, saturate the hair with a formaldehyde-releasing solution before it is dried and flat ironed. As part of the treatment, denatured keratin temporarily coats the outer layer of the hair.
The formaldehyde released during the treatment locks your hair structure into a straight position, so it appears smooth until your natural hair texture returns in 3 to 5 months.
Here’s the problem with these trendy treatments... The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified formaldehyde as a “probable human carcinogen,” based on studies in people and from lab research.
What about salons that claim their hair-smoothing process is formaldehyde-free?
While it may be true that these treatments don’t actually contain formaldehyde, they do contain one or more of these formaldehyde-releasing chemicals:
- Methylene glycol or oxide |
- Formic Aldehyde |
- Formalin |
- Oxomethane |
- Paraform |
- Oxymethlene |
- Methanol |
- Methanediol |
When any of these chemicals are mixed with water, heated or compressed with a flat iron, formaldehyde is released into the water and the air, exposing you to the carcinogen two different ways. The greatest concentrations of formaldehyde are released with heat.
Unfortunately, formaldehyde-releasing ingredients aren’t limited to products from a salon. You can buy them online or in stores, and they aren’t much safer.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) investigated 16 companies that make retail hair straightening products. All products exceeded safety limits when tested for formaldehyde, and 15 of the 16 brands hide the fact that they contain formaldehyde-releasing chemicals.
Smoothing and Strengthening Your Hair From Within
What about oral keratin supplements – can they really make a difference in the appearance of your hair?
For your hair to reap the full benefits from oral keratin, it must be bioavailable to your body.
Until recently, it’s been difficult to find a form of supplemental keratin that your body can readily use.
Our supplier has developed a breakthrough patented process that enables the intact keratin molecule to be solubilized – and become available for your body to use.
In other words, they’ve developed the first “solubilized keratin,” which is a natural keratin that is both bioactive and bioavailable.
Unlike the “denaturalized” keratin available in many of the supplements you’ll find, solubilized keratin is not denatured by heat or acid.
Solubilized keratin is also remarkably different from denatured, hydrolyzed keratin in several key ways:
- The amino acid cysteine, the defining feature of keratin proteins is protected in a beneficial form for your hair, skin and nails.
- The keratin proteins are intact in their amino acid content, and are closer in form and function to the natural keratins found in your skin, hair, nails and other tissues.
- The different fractions of the keratin protein are purified in their active forms for their distinct amino acid profiles and activity, enhancing keratin’s bioavailability.
- A beneficial, stable metal-protein complex forms between the solubilized keratin and trace minerals vital for skin, hair and nail development.
Very few hair, skin and nail formulas contain solubilized keratin. Our Hair, Skin and Nails is different. In addition to the beauty vitamin biotin, our cutting edge supplement contains a premium sourced solubilized keratin – and not a by-product from the animal rendering industry.
High-Quality Keratin the Way Nature Intended
The keratin in our Hair, Skin and Nails is extracted from premium quality pure New Zealand wool using a unique patented process.
Our supplier has a strict protocol and their own wool specification to ensure they receive the highest quality wool. They source only from trusted farmers to ensure complete traceability, from the flock of sheep to the finished product.
Because the quality of wool can vary between flocks and breeds, farmers are paid a premium to supply only wool from specific stocks of a particular breed with a documented genetic heritage.
Sheep raised on the pristine high country grow a thick fleece of wool to protect themselves from the harsh winter.
Farmers harvest their wool in the springtime by shearing, a process that’s not harmful to the sheep. Free of their heavy fleece, the animals return to the fields to continue grazing and raising their young during the long, hot summer.
The sheep’s fleece grows back in the fall, in perfect time to provide them with warmth for the coming winter.

I talked about my ideal trifecta – three key ingredients for youthful-looking hair, skin and nails earlier, right?
I’ve told you about the first two – biotin and our special patented solubilized keratin. Now let’s take a look at the third and final active ingredient in our Hair, Skin and Nails...
The Key Role Hyaluronic Acid Plays in Youthful-Looking Skin
The reason youthful skin retains its suppleness and pliability is because of its natural high water content.
Hyaluronic acid, or HA, is a polysaccharide found in nearly every cell in your body. Your skin soaks up about half of your available supply to help keep your skin hydrated for a firm and smooth appearance.*
HA is a critical part of your skin, providing natural support for the dermis – the “plump” second layer of your skin. It helps deliver nutrients and keeps your dermis layer moist by pulling water from other areas of your body.*
By keeping your skin moist, HA makes it stronger, smoother and tighter. This is just one reason why hyaluronic acid is so popular in many skincare products.*
Hyaluronic acid actually binds the water to skin cells, providing all the layers of your skin with valuable, rejuvenating moisture. HA acts as a humectant and provides lasting hydration for your skin.*
By maintaining proper hydration, you end up with more youthful-looking skin that’s radiant and smooth to the touch.*
Special Low Density Hyaluronic Acid for Greater Bioavailability for Your Tissues
Low density hyaluronic acid, the form of HA we selected for our Hair, Skin and Nails is a special form of highly bioactive hyaluronic acid that your tissues can use more readily.
Researchers believe that as you grow older, your body’s ability to produce hyaluronic acid declines. This can put your skin at risk for increasing dryness.
Also, as you age, the lipid barrier that traps water in your skin’s epidermis declines. Without enough regular moisture in your epidermis, dry skin and fine lines can develop.
With low density hyaluronic acid, you can help maintain proper moisture levels in your skin and help reduce the appearance of fine lines caused by dry skin.*
The special HA in our formula fortifies the skin’s natural barriers to help lock moisture in to promote hydration. Over time, this can help slow down the deterioration of and help protect your skin’s lipid barrier.*
When your lipid barrier is safeguarded by sufficient hyaluronic acid, your skin is better able to defend itself against environmental pollutants and other factors that can speed aging. The end result is skin that looks brighter and more youthful.*
Enhanced hydration and barrier protection naturally leads to healthier cells and a more vibrant complexion.*
Much in the same way it makes the appearance of the skin look tighter, low density hyaluronic acid with its enhanced absorption smooths the texture of your skin, resulting in a silky smooth finish you can see and feel.*
