Frequently Asked Questions
  1. 1. How do Dr. Mercola’s Organic Essential Oils compare to “Therapeutic Grade” essential oils sold by some other companies?

First off, you need to know that no official grading system exists for essential oils, and there is no standard for “Therapeutic Grade.” Whenever any company makes this claim, take it with a grain of salt, and look closer at what really matters.

What is the source of the essential oil? Is it the correct species and is it grown in its ideal location? Is it organic and free of GMOs, synthetic ingredients, chemicals, contaminants, and pesticides? Have the oils been carefully extracted by cold pressing or steam distillation to protect their active compounds or have they been extracted with harsh chemicals? Are they tested for purity and potency?

In other words, evaluate an essential oil on its own merits — and ignore how a company chooses to “grade” it!

  2. 2. Can I ingest Dr. Mercola’s Essential Oils?

Many of my Organic Essential Oils are food grade. Do not consume concentrated essential oils directly from the bottle as this may cause irritation to the mouth, throat and stomach. Essential oils that are food grade include eucalyptus, lemon, orange, peppermint, white grapefruit, thyme, citronella, oregano, lavender, sage, clove, rosemary, lemongrass, wintergreen, geranium, and bergamot.

Essential oils designed for aromatherapy and topical use only include frankincense, tea tree, and tulsi holy basil.

  3. 3. Can I use them topically?

I recommend using my Organic Essential Oils topically only when mixed with a carrier, such as oil, water or another substance. Essential oils should be diluted to 3 to 1%, and some oils such as tulsi holy basil should be diluted down to 0.5%. When using an essential oil for the first time, I recommend spot testing before applying to a large area.

  4. 4. Are Dr. Mercola’s Essential Oils suitable for everyone?

Nearly everyone can enjoy the benefits of essential oils, but certain individuals, including those with allergies and respiratory conditions such as asthma, should only use them under the guidance of a trained professional.

As with any brand of essential oil, if you are pregnant, there are certain oils you want to avoid, including lemon, rosemary and peppermint.

  5. 5. Why are Dr. Mercola’s Organic Essential Oils so affordable? I’ve seen comparable bottles of high-quality essential oils that are one-half the size at double the price.

As always, my goal is to get you maximum value for your money. We’ve worked hard to negotiate the best prices for top quality organic essential oils and we’re simply passing the savings on to you!

  6. 6. Why is my Jojoba Oil frozen?

If you placed your order during the winter months, your Jojoba Oil will most likely arrive frozen. That’s because Jojoba Oil from expeller-pressed Jojoba seeds begins to freeze at 51°F. Once allowed to thaw, your Jojoba Oil will go back to its natural state.
