The Commonly Overlooked Yet Invaluable Food You Can Use to Help Improve Your Body’s Ability to Remove Harmful Substances

When you change your car’s oil regularly, your car runs better and can even last longer. Draining out the old oil pulls with it accumulated dirt and grime, leaving behind a cleaner engine. Could this ancient Ayurvedic practice do the same for your mouth and body?

The concept of cleansing your body and helping it remove waste products isn’t new.

Practitioners have been using different methods to help purify and cleanse the body since the dawn of medicine. And in doing so, they’ve made an important discovery:

Once you remove the obstacles, the human body can move towards restoring and maintaining optimal health.

Your body has its own innate wisdom when it comes to health. When you help it remove waste products and debris, you free up your body to focus on more important tasks.

One simple yet often overlooked way to support your body’s cleansing is to focus on your mouth, the starting point for your body’s digestive processes and what many view as the cornerstone of health.

I believe that what I’m about to show you is so important for your health, it deserves to be a key part of your overall cleansing program.

Why Your Mouth May Be the Most Important Step in Your Overall Cleansing Regimen

detoxification program
Cleansing your mouth is a key part of your overall health regimen

Your mouth plays two key roles in your health: It’s the first step in digestion and it’s involved in the removal of wastes from your body.

The mucous membranes in your mouth secrete enzymes for digestion and they do something else you may not be aware of: they’re a dumping ground for your body’s wastes.

This disposal of wastes is especially active at night when you sleep and your saliva production declines.

The absence of food signals the release of wastes from your tissues and fat cells. These wastes flow into and accumulate in the mucous membranes in your mouth.

If you sometimes wake up in the morning and notice a coated tongue and a slimy feeling in your mouth, that’s the reason why. Your body’s normal waste removal process is working!

Now that you know what’s happening while you sleep, I’m sure you’re eager to know how you can remove these waste products. If you don’t purge them before you eat or drink in the morning, you could re-ingest them!

Before I share with you an age-old solution that’s simple to do, let’s just take a brief look at why effective waste removal is so important for your health.

How Your Mouth Reflects Your Total Body Health

Oral Health
Your oral health is linked to your overall health

A growing body of research suggests that your oral health is linked to your overall health.

In fact, this belief underlies both Chinese traditional and Ayurveda medicine.

According to Ayurveda, sections on your tongue connect to different organs, including your kidneys, lungs, liver, heart, small intestines, stomach, colon, and spine.

Following a similar mouth-body concept, many holistic dentists and practitioners utilize an ancient Chinese-based tool called the Meridian Tooth Chart.

This tool is based on acupuncture meridians or pathways of energy that includes your organs, tissues, and glands. Each of your teeth is connected to an organ via a meridian.

The Meridian Tooth Chart allows a practitioner to assess a patient’s state of health and wellness simply by looking at what’s going on in the mouth. A weakness or issue in one of your organs or systems may be reflected in your mouth.

From these holistic viewpoints, the health of your mouth is very much connected to your total body health. A disruption in the flow of energy through the mouth can potentially affect a distant region of your body.

Not surprisingly, we’re starting to see this connection in traditional medicine as well. For example, a heart specialist may refer a patient to a dentist for care. And researchers are even finding that your cognitive function may be related to your dental health!

A Simple Way to Cleanse and Help Purge Your Mouth of Wastes and Debris

Teeth and Gums
Your gums and teeth tap into your nerves and blood vessels

Even if you don’t subscribe to the Ayurvedic and holistic medicine viewpoints, a quick glance at a tooth structure diagram visually confirms the mouth-body connection.

The roots of your teeth and even your gum tissue tap into the nerves and blood vessels that connect to the rest of your body.

What flows through your teeth and gums can enter the blood supply that feeds your organs, glands, and tissues!

As we’ve already discovered, when you sleep, wastes accumulate in your mouth.

Even your sinuses can potentially be affected as they are separated from the roots of your teeth by only a thin layer of bone tissue.

You can help remove the debris and wastes that accumulate in your mouth with a traditional Indian folk remedy known as oil pulling.

How Oil Pulling Works

When you pull oil – the swishing and chewing of an oil, pushing it through and around your teeth and gums – you help dislodge the debris and wastes that build up in your mouth and gum pockets.

While at-home water irrigation systems are an option to deep clean teeth and gums, some holistic experts believe oil pulling may work even better.

Unlike water irrigation or brushing, which both typically last a couple of minutes at best, pulling oil for 15 to 20 minutes allows the oil to spread through your teeth and into your gum spaces and pockets. The magic is in the time the oil remains in your mouth.

As you swish and “pull” the oil throughout your mouth for this period of time, it works its way deep down into any spaces. It soaks up or “pulls” wastes from around your teeth, gums, and oral cavity.

Oral Oil Pulling
When you pull oil regularly, you'll enjoy a cleaner mouth and fresher breath

When wastes remain on your teeth, plaque – a clear, sticky film – can combine with saliva and form hard deposits. These deposits, known as tartar or calculus, aren’t removed with everyday brushing.

The regular removal of tartar is crucial for your oral and total body health. Since I began pulling oil, the amount of plaque in my mouth has dropped significantly.

In addition to waste removal, here’s what else oil pulling can potentially do for you:

  • Reduce normal plaque accumulation in your mouth
  • Support the health of your gums
  • Purify and freshen your breath as effectively as mouthwash
  • Support your oral health through its mechanical cleansing action

Most importantly, be careful not to swallow the oil. Be sure to spit out the waste-soaked oil when you’re finished!

Think You Can’t Spare 20 Minutes? Try This…

Email Checking
Try oil pulling while you check your email first thing in the morning

If 20 minutes sounds like an eternity to you, here are some tips for fitting oil pulling into your schedule. Many people are surprised at how easy it is to complete when they realize they can do it while doing something else.

Try oil pulling while you:

  • Check your email
  • Shower and shave
  • Walk your dog
  • Do your morning stretches
  • Go for a walk
  • Read or scan the news
  • Commute to work (be sure to pack along your toothbrush!)

Toothpaste and Coconut Oil Oral Rinse

Ideally, it’s best to pull first thing in the morning before you eat or drink as you want to get rid of the built up wastes as soon as possible. Add my Refreshing Mint Toothpaste with Tulsi and Dental Floss to your morning oral care routine and you’ll have a complete system that cleans and freshens your teeth, gums and breath.

If it’s not ideal for you, then any time is better than no time!

Don’t have 20 minutes? Start with five minutes and build upward, until you’re doing the full amount. Your best results will come with 15 to 20 minutes of regular oil pulling.

Why Coconut Oil Is My Favorite Oil for Pulling

Fresh coconut oil for oral health
The oil from fresh coconuts is beneficial for your oral health

While oils such as sesame and sunflower have been used traditionally for oil pulling, there are several reasons why I prefer using Certified Organic Coconut oil:

  • It supports a beneficial balance of healthy mouth flora
  • Its cleansing action intensifies when it breaks down into its fatty acid building blocks, which begins immediately in your mouth
  • It isn’t high in omega-6 fatty acids like the other oils, which means it won’t negatively affect the vital omega 6:3 balance that optimizes your health
  • It tastes better and feels less greasy in your mouth
  • It’s made up of easily digested medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) that readily cross cell membranes
  • Its fats are used by your liver for energy rather than stored as fat
  • Contains three valuable medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs): caprylic, capric, and lauric fatty acids
  • Half of the fat is lauric acid, an important protectant fatty acid found in mother’s milk
  • Does not produce an insulin spike in your bloodstream

While coconut oil is widely known for its skin and personal care benefits, you may not be aware of all of its internal potential benefits.

One of the healthiest fats around, organic coconut oil helps support your:

  • Heart health*
  • Proper thyroid function*
  • Healthy brain function*
  • Immune health*
  • Healthy, strong metabolism for weight management*
  • Youthful-looking skin from the inside out!*

So let me ask you… Why would you want to swish around any other oil in your mouth?

Even Better Than Pure Coconut Oil

Pure Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is hard and chunky when it’s below 76 degrees

Convinced that coconut oil was the perfect oil for pulling, that’s how I began my own oil pulling: with Certified Organic Coconut Oil.

What could be better, right?

Let me ask you… Have you ever scooped out a tablespoonful of coconut oil and placed it in your mouth?

If you have, you know the sensation, and depending on how cool it is in your home, it’s not always pleasant.

Coconut oil that’s below 76 degrees is thick and chunky, not smooth. And it takes longer for it to melt to the right consistency in your mouth than you think.

Of course you can melt it before using it. But you need to be careful not to overheat the oil as it can easily burn your mouth.

And then once you’re finished, you must clean the dish or pan you used to melt the oil, only it’s now coated with hardened coconut oil!

I knew there had to be an easier way…

I decided to combine Certified Organic Coconut Oil with its valuable component, medium-chain triglycerides, or MCT oil.

In Search of the Perfect Consistency, My Certified Organic Coconut Oil Oral Rinse Was Born

When we combined our top-quality organic coconut oil with premium medium-chain triglycerides from coconuts, we discovered it created the perfect consistency for oil pulling.

The normal coconut oil chunks and lumps were gone. And, surprisingly, this unique mixture didn’t leave an unpleasant greasy feeling in the mouth.

Quick mouth cleansing
The combination of coconut oil and MCTs is perfect for oil pulling and quick mouth cleansings

We had created the perfect oil for pulling – silky-smooth, non-greasy, with a light, pleasing coconut taste!

My Certified Organic Coconut Oil Oral Rinse was born!

In addition to oil pulling, you can use Certified Organic Coconut Oil Oral Rinse for a quick, refreshing mouth cleansing when you’re short on time.

Swish for 10 to 30 seconds like you would with ordinary mouthwash, and then spit out for a clean, fresh mouth and breath. Its mechanical cleansing action gets your mouth as clean as mouthwash would.

Packed in an easy-to-use squirt bottle, simply squeeze out the correct amount of Certified Organic Coconut Oil Oral Rinse onto a tablespoon.

It’s a mess-free, handy solution for both oil pulling and mouth cleansing that you can use daily or weekly!

Frequently Asked Questions
  1. 1. Can’t I accomplish the same clean mouth results simply by brushing my teeth?

Your teeth only make up about 10 percent of the surface area in your mouth. Wastes and debris build up on the remaining 90 percent, and in deep down spots that your toothbrush can’t reach.

  2. 2. What should I do with the used oil once I’m done pulling?

Please don’t swallow it! It’s full of the wastes that have been pulled from your mouth. I suggest that you not spit the used oil in your sink or your toilet either. Repeated spitting of used oil can potentially cause plumbing issues. I recommend depositing it into your trash.

  3. 3. Are there any conditions where I shouldn’t do oil pulling?

If you are allergic to coconut, do not use. Other than that, oil pulling has been used by many different cultures and is a perfectly safe, non-invasive procedure. You’re simply holding coconut oil and medium chain triglycerides from coconut in your mouth for up to 20 minutes.
